Senedd Reviews

The Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru ('the Commission') is an independent and impartial non-departmental public body.

We are responsible for reviewing the boundaries of the Senedd's constituencies in Wales based on rules set by the Senedd.

We are currently required to submit a formal report by 1 April 2025 based on rules set out in the Welsh Parliament (Members and Elections) Act 2024.

This will mean a significant change in the current Senedd constituencies across Wales.

In order to prepare our report we will carry out a review process. We refer to this process as the 2026 Review.

We will develop and publish initial proposals that identify the 16 new constituencies in the Senedd that we believe are appropriate with Welsh and English names or, where appropriate, a single language name, as well as a designation for each constituency throughout Wales as either a county constituency or a borough constituency.

These constituencies will be formed through the amalgamation of 2 neighbouring UK parliamentary constituencies.

We will then consider written comments from the public on our proposals during a four-week consultation period.

After considering the representations received if appropriate, the Commission will publish a revised set of proposals.

These will also be subject to a written consultation period of four weeks, after considering all the representations received during the consultation periods, the Commission will then prepare final decisions to be included in our final report which will be prepared for the Senedd.

The decisions in our report will be implemented through a subsequent process in the Senedd.
