Vale of Glamorgan Community Review begins

The Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales has today (1 February) opened its Initial Consultation as the Community Review of the Vale of Glamorgan gets underway.

The Vale of Glamorgan is divided into 27 Communities, all of which have their own Town or Community Council, apart from the Community of Rhoose.

The Community Review will look at all Community boundaries within the Vale of Glamorgan, with changes to those boundaries possible where a need is identified.

The Boundaries of Community Wards could also be changed, along with the electoral arrangements of Town or Community Councils, for example the number of Councillors which are elected to councils.

Changes to Community Boundaries are most likely in areas where there have been significant changes in recent years, for example where a new housing estate has been built which crosses an existing Community boundary.

However, changes could be made to any Community boundaries in the Vale of Glamorgan if responses to the Commission’s consultation indicate a need for change.

The Commission’s consultation is now open and closes on 28 March. Members of the public can submit their views on whether or not there should be any changes to their Communities, and indeed what changes should take place, by emailing consultations@boundaries.wales or by writing in the post to LDBCW, Hastings House, Cardiff, CF24 0BL.

The Commission will take account of all representations received during the consultation before publishing its Draft Proposals. The proposals will then be subject to a further consultation period.

Commenting on the opening of the consultation, Chief Executive of the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales, Shereen Williams MBE OStJ said:

“Communities are the level of government closest to the people, and its vital that they continue to accurately represent people in every part of the Vale of Glamorgan.

“Those with the greatest knowledge of whether, and how their communities should change will be those who live there, so I would encourage everyone, whatever their view, to respond to our consultation.”
